1974 Serro Scotty Sportsman – Full Restoration (Tribute Build)

Background

This 1974 Serro Scotty Sportsman arrived in extremely rough condition. The interior was shot, the exterior was fading fast, and structurally it was suffering from significant wall and roof rot. Originally, this trailer was supposed to be a simple cleanup job so my grandfather could haul it to the Mopar Nationals with his Lil’ Red Express. That idea disappeared as soon as we opened it up and saw what it really needed.

Scope of Work
The project evolved into a full restoration—interior, exterior, structure, wiring, plumbing—everything. My grandfather rebuilt the entire interior from scratch: new cabinetry, upholstery, flooring, fixtures, and trim. He completed the entire interior section himself. Not long after finishing that work, he passed away.

I completed the exterior shortly after. The aluminum siding was chemically stripped, fully wet-sanded, and polished. All rot—walls and roof—was removed and rebuilt correctly. The trailer received all-new wiring, plumbing, and propane supply lines. Anything that couldn’t be sourced was fabricated in-house.

Additional Custom Work
Custom aluminum checker plate was applied around the lower exterior. A tinted custom front awning was built specifically for this unit.

What Stayed Original
The interior remained exactly as my grandfather left it. It had never been used, slept in, or marked in any way. It was kept 100% intact as a tribute.

Challenges
The biggest challenge was the extent of structural rot and the amount of custom fabrication required. This was a complete rebuild from the frame up, minus removing the tub.

Outcome
The finished trailer turned out clean, polished, and structurally solid. More importantly, it became a tribute build—OLP: Our Last Project—the final restoration my grandfather and I ever worked on together.
